By July 17, 2017Startup News

Longmont Startup Week (LSW) is the last week of July and Boomtown staff and alumni will be involved in several sessions to offer their expertise to give insight into entrepreneurship and the startup lifestyle.

The third annual Longmont Startup Week is packed with educational events. If you have never been to a startup week (Boulder, Denver and Fort Collins have them too), it is a great time to network and learn a lot of information in a short amount of time. The sessions run Monday, July 24 through Friday, July 28 and are free to the public.

Boomtown staff or alumni are involved in five sessions this year. Check them out below and be sure to stop by and join us if you’re attending LSW.

Boomtown Schedule at Longmont Startup Week

Monday, July 24

Cory Finney, operations manager at Boomtown, will participate in a basic “Founder 101” panel starting at 3:00 p.m. at St. Vrain Cidery.  This panel will talk about how to set up your startup for success, raise funding, and attain customers.

Tuesday, July 25

Head over to “Accelerator/ Incubator: Who’s Who” at 1:00p.m. at Bootstrap Brewing in Longmont.  You can learn about the different accelerators and incubators in the area for entrepreneurs and Shaw Lathrop, program manager at Boomtown, will be one of the speakers on the panel.

Then, starting at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, join Jeffrey Donenfeld, investment manager from Boomtown. He will be moderating a session called “That Which Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Stronger” at the Longmont Theatre. The panel participants will discuss some of the flounders or major pivots they faced when trying to launch their startups and how they achieved success. Boomtown Alumni Kate Cyan from Read Dog (BT alum Spring ’17) and Chris Drayer from Revaluate (BT alum Fall ‘15) will also take part.

Thursday, July 27

Boomtown is a big supporter of entrepreneurial mental fitness. In this session on Thursday entitled “Mental Fitness for Entrepreneurs” at 3:00 p.m. at Gold’s Gym, Cory Finney returns along with Dr. Terri Finney, founder of Startup Wellness and Boomtown mentor, to discuss why mental health is important for entrepreneurs, signs an entrepreneur might need some help and will offer some self-help skills and resources. This session is moderated by Leah Winkler, Boomtown program manager, and begins at 3:00 p.m.

Friday, July 28

Leah Winkler returns to hold “A Crash Course in Design Thinking” at 11:00 a.m. at Guaranty Bank, a problem-solving methodology built on the foundation of user empathy. This hands-on, two-hour session poses a design challenge to the participants, and from there they will learn, experiment and prototype a solution for the end user in a 90-minute sprint. This session begins at 11:00 a.m.

Why Longmont?

If you’re wondering why Longmont would be a good place to launch a startup, learn about the unique and innovative assets Longmont has to offer startups at the “Why Longmont?” session at 1:00 p.m. at Gold’s Gym. At this session, you will hear unique and interesting stories from local entrepreneurs and business owners who recently chose Longmont.
